The problem is how most tools blur
An ordinary blur doesn't delete information - it spreads it around. The original detail is still mathematically present, just smeared, which is why researchers have repeatedly shown that blurred and pixelated faces can be reconstructed or re-identified. Modern AI models make it easier every year (see McPherson et al., 2016).
Pixelation has the same flaw: it averages blocks of real pixels rather than removing them. With enough samples or a trained model, those averages can be pushed back toward the original face. Every phone photo editor and most online tools work this way, which is why "I blurred it" is not the reassurance it sounds like.
How BlurBaby blurs instead

Is a black bar enough?
